136 submit applications for I-JOBS program funds

Aug. 4, 2009 10:47 am
One hundred thirty-six communities and organizations from 47 counties have submitted applications for more than $333 million from the Local Infrastructure Program of the state's I-JOBS program.
The applicants totaling $333,619,449 are competing for a share of $118.5 million in I-JOBS funds. The funds are available for communities, counties and non-profits sponsoring projects related to disaster rebuilding, the construction and replacement of local public buildings, flood control and flood protection, and future flood prevention.
Most of the $46.5 million of I-JOBS funds set aside to assist projects in communities damaged by last year's storms and floods have been allocated.
Over the next few weeks, Iowa Finance Authority staff there will review applications, ensuring that they meet threshold requirements. Those that do will be forwarded to the I-JOBS Review Committee for further review. The applications will be scored and recommendations will be forwarded to the I-JOBS board. It will meet Aug. 31 in Waterloo to consider the Review Committee's recommendations.
All applications are available online at www.ijobsiowa.gov.
The $830 million in I-JOBS funds will be used to upgrade Iowa's roads and bridges, invest in renewable energy projects, improve water quality, and upgrade public facilities. I-JOBS is funded with existing gaming revenue.
