CEDAR RAPIDS - The Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation will offer grants of up to $50,000 to help flooded non-profits rebuild.
Some $500,000 from the Flood 2008 Fund has been reserved for Linn County non-profits rebuilding their facilities or building or rehabbing replacement facilities.
More than 50 non-profits were damaged or destroyed by the flood, according to Karla Twedt-Ball, the foundation's vice president of programs.
“This new funding source for capital rebuilding projects goes beyond just helping fix facilities to resume post-flood operations,” she said. “It will enable non-profits that have a need for new construction or substantial rehab to fulfill their mission as it was before the flood.”
The deadline to apply for a Non-profit Rebuilding Capital Grant is Sept. 1. The applications will be reviewed in September and in February.
Until now, the Flood Fund grants to non-profits have focused mainly on programs and operations.
“Capital grants are new territory for the community foundation, but the circumstances warrant a change from business as usual,” Twedt-Ball said.
