Aucutt, Cheryl
Cheryl Aucutt, 58, died suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. A Trisagion service will be held during the visitation at 6 p.m. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at St. George Orthodox Church. Burial will be in St. George Cemetery.
Cheryl was born Aug. 22, 1955, in Cedar Rapids. She attended Washington High School and the University of Iowa, where she earned her BA and MA degrees in education. She taught special education in the Cedar Rapids Community Schools for 36 years until her retirement in 2013. She adored teaching and was often heard saying, “When you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life.” Cheryl was a lifelong, active member of St. George Orthodox Church, where she taught Sunday school for 19 years.
Cheryl's most treasured gift in the world and greatest source of happiness was her family. She loved to tease and joke with them, and her love for them poured out. She thoroughly enjoyed traveling, attending church, or even just sitting around the kitchen table together. Time with family always brought her great pleasure. She was very proud of her family and strove to build wonderful memories for them, such as holiday meals, funny text messages, their annual trip to Gays Mills to enjoy the beautiful autumn sights, or their annual trip viewing Christmas lights around the city with carols playing on the radio and hot chocolate in the thermos.
Survivors include her loving husband, Michael Aucutt, and their children, Jacob and Sarah, of Marion; her sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Eugene Nassif Sr. of Cedar Rapids; brother and sister-in-law, Michael and Jackie Koury of Davenport; her nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Eva (David) Koury; her sister, Janet, brother-in-law, John Sr., and their son, John Homsey Jr.
Memorials can be made to St. George Education or Sunday school Fund.
