Betty Kacere, 92, passed away peacefully while recovering from a fall on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. A visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at
Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, where a Trisagion service
will begin at 4 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 10, at St. George Church, Cedar Rapids, officiated by Father Fred Shaheen. Burial will take
place in St. George Cemetery.
Betty was born to Charles and Lena Abraham in Mason City and raised in Joice, Iowa. She was the youngest of 10 children. She married George J. Kacere in Cedar Rapids on June 16, 1946. They had three sons. Betty worked and retired from Rockwell Collins after 27 years of service.
In her retirement, she was an avid golfer, enjoyed walking and traveling. She also loved volunteering at St. Luke's Hospital for over 10 years. Most of all, Betty enjoyed cooking she served fabulous meals to her family and friends. She was best known for her great cookies!
Betty was a member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church and when she was able, always attended and helped with functions at the church.
Betty is survived her sister, Senoma Abraham of Aurora, Colo.; her sons, Alan (Dee) of Marion, Ken (Penny) of Scarborough, Maine, and Kurt and special friend Debb Whitney of Scottsdale, Ariz. She also cherished time with her four granddaughters, Laura (Gerry) Ernzen, Melissa (Jimmy) Martinez, Brooke (Steve) Smalley and Allison Kacere; and her four great- grandchildren, Samantha, Lanie, Nathan and Perla.
For the past three years, Betty resided at Promise House, where she was well taken care of by a very caring staff.
In addition, the family would like to thank Dr. Melanie Stahlberg for the superb care and guidance she provided whenever Betty needed medical assistance and also to Dr. Jeff Nassif for his care and compassion after her fall.
