Nassif, Nicola G.
Nicola G. Nassif, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died Feb. 2, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at St. George Orthodox Church, with Father Fred Shaheen officiating. A visitation will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the church, where a Trisagon service will take place at 6 p.m. Burial will take place at St. George Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Hayat; daughters, Marie Chalhoub and husband George of Swisher and Norma Abou Raad and husband Elie of Cedar Rapids; sons, Nick Nassif and wife Angela of Cedar Rapids and Joseph Nassif and wife Holly of Mount Vernon; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brothers, Eli (Susie) Nassif and Shaker (Rose) Nassif, both of Cedar Rapids, and Dr. Edward (Cecilia) Nassif of Ames; sisters, Saleeme (Nick) Chahine, Rose Ziadeh and Daglas (Izhaua) Elorm, all of Cedar Rapids; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, George.
Nicola George Nassif was born May 26, 1938, in Ain Arab, Lebanon, the beloved son of George and Nasseemeh (Haddy) Nassif. He was united in marriage to Hayat Chalhoub on April 9, 1961, in Zahle, Lebanon.He immigrated with his family to the United States and proudly became a United States citizen in 1976.He was employed at various positions throughout his life, and was also self-employed in real estate for several years.He enjoyed time spent with family and the company of friends. He especially enjoyed trips he was able to make back to his home land.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed.
Memorial donations in Nicola's honor may be made to St. George Orthodox Church.
