Blake C. Taylor Sr., 67, passed away Monday, May 28, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a sudden illness.

A gathering to celebrate the life of Blake Sr. will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at the Lawrence Community Center in Anamosa, with a service at 7 p.m. Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, has been entrusted with Blake's care.

Surviving are his wife, Renee; three children, Preston (Abby) Taylor, Courtney (Keith) Taylor-McGowan and Blake Taylor Jr.; two stepsons, Aaron and Chad; several grandchildren and another on the way, due to arrive in September; and his siblings, Bryce, Brett, Bruce and Blair Taylor and Becky Zimmerman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Charlene; and his special Rottweiler, Bubba.

Blake Collyer Taylor was born May 3, 1951, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was the son of Clyde and Charlene Lyon-Taylor. He graduated from Olin High School in 1970. Blake served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He worked in the family business, Taylor Motors, in Olin and at Wilson Foods in Cedar Rapids. Blake Taylor and Renee Handel were married on Oct. 19, 1991, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple have resided in Anamosa and since 1995 have operated the Americana Concessions business at events all over the state of Iowa. Many will remember Blake as the "Funnel Cake Man" for this reason. Never did you see him at an event without his tongs in his hand. He was a very hard worker and enjoyed his concessions of 23 years with his wife, Renee. He was a laid-back, humble man who enjoyed pulling pranks and telling stories in his off time, as well as spending time with his pride and joy, his grandchildren.
