Mishler, Rhoda Maye Hartwig

Rhoda Maye Hartwig Mishler, 85, of Marion, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at Peace Christian Reformed Church, Marion, by the Rev. Gary Brouwers. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion. Rhoda chose to be cremated, with no burial.

Rhoda was born July 28, 1924, in Olin, Iowa, to Otto and Doris (Strickell) Hartwig of Anamosa. She was united in marriage to Kenneth H. Mishler of Nashua in 1943; they were married 30 years.

Rhoda is survived by her children, Richard Mishler (Sherri Wilcox) of Cedar Rapids, Michele Buchanan of Cedar Rapids and Kelly (Allen) Hartwig of Marion; 10 grandchildren, Rikki, Fred, Jens, Genna, Jarl, Sasha, Becca, Adam, Macey and Elsie; and seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Aiden, Rylen, Nolan, Kaylee, Andre and Ariah. She is also survived by four sisters, Delite (John) Good of Anamosa, Joann (Jerry) Ferrie of Cedar Rapids, June (John) Miller of Cedar Rapids and Catherine McConchie of Aurora, Colo.; and three brothers, John (Ruth) Hartwig of Cedar Rapids, Charles (Carol) Hartwig of Cedar Rapids and Jim (Corrine) Hartwig of Mesa, Ariz.

Rhoda was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Richard, Keith, Robert and Albert (Buzzy) Hartwig; two sisters, Sarah (Joslin) Hartwig and Anna Bernice Hartwig; and her ex-husband, Kenneth Mishler.

Rhoda was employed by Rockwell for 26 years, and she attended Peace Christian Reformed Church, Marion, for 40 years. She was a volunteer for Head Start and the Marion school district. She was also a sports fan, following the Cubs and Minnesota Vikings, and attended many Iowa Hawkeye games with her grandchildren. She loved crafts, babies, and teaching small children. Rhoda was a wealth of information on how, what, and why for gardening, cooking, family history and politics.

She will be greatly missed for all who counted on her.

A memorial fund has been established in Rhoda's memory.
