Hepker, Charles William

Charles William Hepker, 61, of Springville, died at home Wednesday, July 7, 2010. Chuck lived with multiple myeloma cancer and the effects of chemotherapy for over nine years. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. John Keizer. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial: Springville Cemetery. Military honors provided by American Legion Post 331, Springville.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Scott Hepker; daughter, Shanna (Tony) Satterlee; sister, Marlys Tritle; and brothers, Larry (Betty) Coonrod and Donald (Barb) Coonrod. He is also survived by his much adored grandchildren, Tyler and Trenton Satterlee and Anna Hepker; a special nephew, Michael Coonrod, who was always there for us; and many extended family and friends.

Chuck was born Nov. 28, 1948, the son of Forest William and Mary Evelyn (Rosekrans) Hepker, in Urbana. He graduated from Springville High School in 1967 and served in the Marine Corps from 1968 to 1971. On Sept. 19, 1970, he married Susan LaKose in Fallbrook, Calif. They moved back to Springville in 1971 and spent the rest of their married life there. Chuck loved his farming which he had to give up five years ago and was very proud of his three years in the Marine Corps. He really enjoyed his many years on the Linn Co-Op board and always looked forward to the meetings and events. In his retirement, he enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, collecting movies and tapes of favorite shows, working with wood projects, and even became quite particular when mowing the yard. His biggest joys in life were his wife, children and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Chucks' memory.

The family would like to thank everyone at Oncology Associates for all their care and concern given to Chuck in the past nine years. He really cared for all of you and it was like going to see friends each time he had an appointment. We would also like to thank all of the staff on the cancer floor of Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids for their great care the many times Chuck was in the hospital. And lastly, thank you to the Mercy Hospice workers who were always ready to answer questions and help out in any way they could.
