Novak, Sharon K. 'Poopsie'
Sharon K. “Poopsie” Novak, 67, of 1619 10th St. NW, died Saturday at St. Luke's Hospital. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Nick Longworth will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and at the chapel after 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
Surviving to honor her memory are her husband, Gary; her son, Todd (Jennifer) Schroeder; her daughter, Lisa (Rex) Johnson; her grandsons, Zach (Jenny) Carlin, Logan Schroeder and Spencer Schroeder; her stepgreat-granddaughter, Nicolette Burger; her stepgreat-grandson, Noah Burger; and her great-granddaughter, Stella Carlin. Also surviving are her brother, Don (Kris) McSpadden; her sister, Becky McSpadden; three stepdaughters; two stepsons; 13 stepgrandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved pet dogs, Petey, Lady and Chelsea.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lowell; and two stepgranddaughters.
Sharon was born Feb. 2, 1943, the daughter of Donald and Opal Campbell McSpadden. She married Lowell Schroeder on Aug. 3, 1964, and they had two children, Todd and Lisa. She married Gary Novak on July 4, 1992.
Sharon's family would like to thank Dr. Thrower, Dr. Wilbur and the staff at Oncology Associates for taking such good care of Sharon for the last 6 ½ years; Dr. Lisa Hazelton, St. Luke's Hospital, Mercy Medical Center, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and the staff at the Mayo Clinic for all the care given Sharon during her battle with breast cancer; and all of her many friends at Sip & Stir, Mr. B's, Just Coz, Cooters, Westside Lounge, Gilligan's, the Eagles Club, and her friends and co-workers at Walmart for their love and support during her long and courageous battle.
Sharon and her family would also like to thank her very special friend, Shannon Ashby, for all the hugs and kisses over the last 6 ½ years and for coming to see her everyday while she was at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and at St. Luke's Hospital. “Shannon, I will always be thankful for your love and friendship. Love, Sharon.”
Sharon and Gary's second home was in Hayward, Wis., where for the last 21 years, they would spend one two weeks fishing, golfing, shopping, and occasionally visiting the casino.
Sharon will be greatly missed by her family and all of the friends they made over the years.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
