Wagner, Faye Germaine
Faye Germaine Wagner passed away Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at Hiawatha Care Center. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church by the Rev. Phillip Schmitt. Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Burial: St. John's Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Faye was born May 8, 1932, at a farm home near the town of Millville in Northeast Iowa. Her parents were John Edward Meyers and Grace Opal (Cole) Meyers. Her siblings include a brother, Clyde Meyers and a twin sister, Fern Bates.
In her early years, Faye went to Hunter's Country School near the Turkey River. Her family moved to a farm near Edgewood, Iowa, when Faye was eight years old. Faye attended a country school outside of Edgewood and went to Edgewood High School. Faye played softball on Edgewood Town Women's team. Faye was the pitcher and her twin sister, Fern, was the catcher. Later, Faye played softball in Cedar Rapids for Collins. Faye also enjoyed league bowling for many years.
Faye was married on July 14, 1953, to Karl “Rusty” Wagner at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Edgewood, Iowa. Together, Faye and Karl raised five children, John (Karen), Bill (Debbie), Karla (Gary), Gerard (Trudy) and Doug (Heather). Faye and Karl have 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding Faye in death were one son, (Klein Karl) who died shortly after his birth; her parents; her brother, Clyde; and her husband, Karl.
In her lifetime, Faye worked at Collins, St. Luke's Hospital and Mount Mercy College, where she was especially proud of her many work study students. Faye's life centered on supporting her family and friends in any way she could.
The Wagner family wishes to especially thank the staff at Promise House Assisted Living Center and the Hiawatha Care Center for their loving care. The family also thanks Dr. Mary Anne Nelson who lovingly cared for both Faye and her husband, Karl.
Memorial gifts may be directed to Hiawatha Care Center or St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
