VIRGINIA ANNE KNOTTS
Bellevue, Neb.
April 21, 1923 Dec. 13, 2017
Virginia passed in Bellevue, Neb. She was born in Spencer, Iowa, the second child of Harry and Sylvia Fell Knotts. She spent her childhood in Spencer, Armstrong, Spirit Lake and Iowa City, where she graduated from City High School.
She had a love of all things nursing and pursued this calling by attending a nursing school in Burlington, Iowa. She took her first job at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, rising quickly to become night supervisor. She left Iowa City for Boone, Iowa, where she continued on her path of nursing administration. She later moved to Hastings, Neb., where she was director of nursing, retiring in 1979.
After being away from Iowa City for many years, she returned and renewed old friendships and made new friends. Ginny had owned the homestead on Fairchild Street in Iowa City, after receiving it from her mother more than 40 years earlier.
She was very active in her church, volunteering for the many clothing drives. Although Ginny never married, she was very active in the lives of her nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. Ginny spent the final years of her life with her niece in Bellevue, Neb.
Virginia was preceded in death by her mother, Sylvia Fell Knotts; her brother, Harold Knotts; her sister, Carol Jane Palmer; as well as her nephew, Scott T. Knotts.
She is survived by her brother, Col. (Ret.) Noel D. Knotts of Malabar, Fla. Virginia's life was very full of family and friends. Left to cherish her memory are nieces, Jaci Miller (David) of Palos Hills, Ill., Elizabeth Szymanski (David) of Bellevue, Neb., Jane Moore (Bill) of Snellville, Ga., Noel Diane Knotts of Melbourne, Fla., Barbara Butler (Tom) of Malabar, Fla., and Laura Kassik (Dan) of Handford, Calif.; as well as her nephews, Col. (Ret.) Carl D. Knotts of Mason Neck, Va., and Michael Palmer (Denise) of Apple Valley, Minn. She also leaves behind her great-nieces and great-nephews, Chadwick Moore (Regina) of Stone Mountain, Ga., Sarah Miller (Jason) of Homer Glen, Ill., Kristi Roberts (Mike) of New Lenox, Ill., R. Adam Moore of Germany, Laura Szymanski of Austin, Texas, Danielle Knotts of Phoenix, Ariz., Kate Szymanski of Bellevue, Neb., Christopher Knotts of Houston, Texas, Conner Kassik of Handford, Calif., Trent Kassik of Havasu, Ariz., Jack Kassik of Handford, Calif., Hayley Knotts of Washington, D.C., Scout Knotts of Mason Neck, Va., and Zoe Palmer of Apple Valley, Minn.; along with great-great-nieces and nephews. Ginny also leaves behind special friends, Mary Dusterhoft, Liz Schweigart and Barbara Beard, all of Iowa City, Iowa, as well as Julius and Gina Dusterhoft of Cyprus, Texas.
To honor her wishes, Virginia will be cremated. There will be no services or memorial. If you so desire, any memorial should go to your favorite charity that supports single mothers.
