Becker, Robert 'Bob' Arnold

Robert “Bob” Arnold Becker, 74, of Marion, died Monday, April 4, 2011, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, following a long, courageous battle with cancer. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, April 8, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by Pastor Greg Williamson. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Survivors include his children, Eric Becker of St. Louis, Mo., John (Lisa) Becker of Rolla, Mo., Carol Becker of Rolla, Mo., Jill Cram of Marion, Laura (Brian) Abney of Cedar Rapids, and Michael (Laura) Cram of Urbana; four grandchildren, Matthew and Ryan (Melissa) Egesdal and Alvadore and Jonathan Cram; a brother, George (Bonnie) Becker of Des Moines; a sister, Karen Grinder of Townville, S.C.; brother-in-law, Charlie (Pam) Brown of Marion; sister-in-law, Ida Mae Roberts of Vinton; special friends, Joe and Jeanne Dahm and Trudy Cram; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; a brother, Charles Becker; and two brothers-in-law Raymond Roberts Sr. and Phillip Roberts.
Bob was born Jan. 31, 1937, the son of Arnold and Jessie (Fowler) Becker, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1955. Bob enlisted in the United States Navy in July 1955, working as an electronics technician until July 1959. Bob worked at Rockwell Collins, until his retirement in 1995. He married Shirley Roberts Cram on Jan. 10, 1981, at the Marion Christian Church. Until recently, Bob was an active member of the “BBQ This” bowling team. Bob enjoyed traveling with his wife, Shirley, watching wildlife, studying history and tinkering with a project in his workshop. Most of all, he loved spending time with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bob's memory.
