Marlys Mae Cameron, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Hills Community Church, 6455 E Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at the church, officiated by the Rev. Kent Landhuis. A visitation will be one hour before the service beginning at 9 a.m. at the church. A private family inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Marlys is survived by her husband of 49 years, Jack A. Cameron, of Cedar Rapids; son, Terry Cameron (Todd Vucsko) of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Tina Kernwein (Jeffery) of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Jakob Peters, Anthony Kernwein, Andrew Vucsko-Cameron, Nathan Vucsko-Cameron and Zachary Vucsko-Cameron; as well as a brother, Bill Silkman (Janice) of Orlando, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Darrell Silkman.
Marlys was born Jan. 14, 1947, in Battle Creek, Iowa, the daughter of Lewis and Bernita (Beard) Silkman. She was united in marriage to Jack Allen Cameron on June 27, 1965, in Storm Lake, Iowa. Marlys was a full-time homemaker and a devoted wife and mother. Marlys was a member of the Cedar Hills Community Church, and was very active in the Stephens Ministry there. She loved cats, dogs and horses.
