Boarts, Mildred L. 'Millie'
Mildred L. “Millie” Boarts, 90, formerly of 828 E. Fairchild St., Iowa City, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2010, at Mercy Iowa City's hospice unit. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Lensing Funeral Service in Iowa City. Funeral services will begin at noon Tuesday at Lensing's, with Pastor Jan Rippentrop officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City.
The daughter of Robert and Nora Mae (Jacobs) Beard, Millie was born Feb. 21, 1920, in a farm house half way between Iowa City and Lone Tree. Millie was united in marriage to Leo J. Boarts on May 28, 1936, at Zion Lutheran Church. She worked as a nurse's aide at both Mercy Hospital and University of Iowa Hospitals for many years. She later worked at Hamburg Inn on N. Linn Street in Iowa City.
She is survived by her children, Barbara Boyer (Russ) of Effingham, Ill., Mary Hall of Plymouth, Ind.,
Leo Boarts Jr. (Renee) of Chino, Calif., and Terry Boarts of Philadelphia, Pa.; sister, Mary Beckelheimer of Florida; 12 grandchildren: 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter, Maria.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters; two brothers; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter, Ashley.
