Lorene M. Swenson, 90, went home to her Heavenly Father and to join her "forever loved" husband, Harley, on Sunday, Sept. 13, 2015, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church by Pastor Randy Kasch. Burial: Garrison Cemetery, Minnesota. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Teahen Funeral Home and after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Lorene is survived by her daughter, Trudy Seitz of Winnipeg, Canada; and two sons, Rick (Beverly) of Sun City Center, Fla., and Terry (Lisa) of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Jacqueline Seitz, Cameron Seitz, Julia (Doug) Laughridge and Ben Swenson (fiancee Maddy Rizor); four great-grandchildren; and brother, Marlyn Nuehring of Monona.
She was proceeded in death by her husband of 38 years, Harley; seven brothers; and three sisters.
Lorene Mabel was born on May 12, 1925, the daughter of John and Alice Kruse Nuehring, in Clayton County. She married Harley Anton Swenson on Aug. 28, 1945, in Luana. Together they lived in Iowa, before Harley retired and they moved to Garrison, Minn. In addition to raising three children, she worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1992.
She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary Post 16 of Garrison, Minn., a charter member of Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church, also in Garrison. After moving to Cedar Rapids in 2003, she became a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
