Myers, Russell Lee
Russell Lee Myers, 87, died Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services: 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 20, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by the Rev. Ron McKee. Family will greet friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 19, at the funeral home. Burial: Blodgett Cemetery, rural Central City.
Survivors include his wife, Norma of Alburnett; children, Diana Heck of Cedar Rapids, Janis Lewis of Colorado, Stuart (Cindy) Myers of Nebraska and Russ (Sue) Myers of Hiawatha; stepchildren, Robert Yates of California, John (Cindy) Yates of Cedar Rapids, Dorothy (Mike) Downs of Manchester and Trudy (Ron) Davis of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Ruth Kloster of Charles City; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Harrison.
Russell was born April 5, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Ola H. and Ina M. (Kee) Myers. During World War II, Russell served in the 17th Airborne Division of the United States Army He married Eleanor Swenson and they later divorced. On June 19, 1971, Russell was united in marriage to Norma Abel. He was employed at Rockwell Collins for over 30 years.
Russell was a member of the Marion American Legion Post 298 and Cedar Rapids VFW Post 788.
A memorial fund has been established in Russell's honor.
