John E. Laffoon, 63, of Iowa City, passed away unexpectedly on July 17, 2018, at his home.
A gathering to celebrate John's life will be from 6 to
8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24, at the Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Ave., in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Laffoon family in care of Amanda Laffoon.
John was born on June 6, 1955, in Albia, Iowa, the son of Paul and Hazel (Nordeen) Laffoon. The family moved to Nebraska and later settled in Washington, Iowa. He was a graduate of Washington High School, where he wrestled. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor of Science degree and applied his knowledge to a career in electron microscopy at the University of Iowa for 25 years.
John was a fan of the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Vikings and Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed cooking, camping and long rides on his Harley-Davidson.
John loved spending time with family and friends. He was an amazing father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. He will be missed.
John is survived by his three children, Amanda, Alex (Ally) and Zack Laffoon; his grandson, Dominic; his siblings, Tim, David and Melissia; his former spouse, Trudy Griffeth; and numerous extended family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, and his brother, Leonard "Spud."
