Schloeman Jr., John Fredrick
John Fredrick Schloeman Jr., 82, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. James McCoy. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites by American Legion Post 727.
Survivors include his children: Ruth (David) Fleming, Riverside; Ramona (Mark) Suchy, Cedar Falls; Rebecca (Randy Denny) Schloeman, Coggon; Roxanne (Joe) Blood, Fairfax; Raoul Schloeman, Cedar Rapids; Reuben Schloeman, Cedar Rapids; Roseanne (Greg) McGraw, Troy Mills; and Rachael (Dan) Crinigan and Evangelynn Schloeman, both of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Connie Turner, Hiawatha, and Pam (Bob) Sippel, Marion.
John was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Born April 25, 1929, in Norway, Iowa, John was the son of John and Myrna (Allum) Schloeman Sr. He graduated from Wilson High School. John served his country in the U.S. Navy. On Feb. 1, 1957, John married Margaret “Peggy” Ann Rees in Cedar Rapids. He lost the love of his life on April 6, 1993.
He was an Eagle Scout and Den master and involved in scouting throughout his life.
John worked for the C&NW and Milwaukee railroads, Penick & Ford and the City of Cedar Rapids.
John loved his family, the Cubs, bird watching and writing and receiving letters. He loved people and had a great sense of humor.
