Vaundon Walter Williams, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, April 3, 2016, at UnityPoint St. Luke's Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 8, at the First Church of the Open Bible, 1911 E Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids, officiated by Pastor Charles Stevens. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Entombment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Vaundon, known as "Vaun" or "Sonnie," was born Oct. 31, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, to Thomas and Bethene (Canterbury) Williams. He was united in marriage to Frances M. (Coleman) Cosgrove, on May 7, 1993, in Cedar Rapids. He worked as a truck driver for A.W. Schmidt Transfer from 1979 until 1999. He was previously employed by H&W Motor Express. After he retired, he worked parttime for C.R. Winpump.
Vaun was a member of the First Church of the Open Bible, where he was active on the youth staff and as a deacon. He lived to serve others. If there was a need, he would fill it. He enjoyed doing good deeds and giving. His love and generosity will be missed by those who knew him.
Vaun is survived by his wife, Frances; two sons, Vaundon Williams II and Terry Williams, both of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Theresa (Tim) Rowland of Cedar Rapids and Kimberly (Larry) Lorton of Indianola; stepchildren, Cynthia (Patrick) Robinson of Shellsburg, Tom Cosgrove of Glacier Springs, Wash., Lisa (Shawn) Thomas and Kristine (Greg) Long, both of Cedar Rapids; stepdaughter-in-law, Wendy Cosgrove of Demming, Wash.; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel "Dori" Whitmore of Mount Carroll, Ill.; and his best friend since childhood, Gary Mrazek.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Christine Barber; siblings, Norma Dickle, Velma Williams, David Williams and Russell Williams; and his beloved dog and travel companion, Angel.
