Hruby, Jerry V.
Jerry V. Hruby, 84, of Cedar Rapids, was called home Monday, May 31, 2010, at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 5, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ed Powers. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 57 years, Lois; his sons, Mike (Dawn) Hruby of Mission, Kan., Denny (Linda) Hruby of Solon and Ron Hruby of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Elizabeth “EJ” (Eric) York of Cedar Rapids and Rob Hruby of Cedar Falls; a brother, Donald (Gladys) Hruby of Solon; a sister, Vlasta Brase of Janesville, Wis.; and five nieces and nephews.
Jerry was born Sept. 28, 1925, the son of Joseph and Bessie (Yansky) Hruby, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. On Oct. 18, 1953, Jerry was united in marriage to Lois Stodola in Cedar Rapids. For 30 years, he was a Cedar Rapids firefighter.
Jerry enjoyed square dancing, camping, and taking trips with his family. He also coached girls basketball and softball teams and was a Cubmaster for eight years.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
