Bird, Clarence 'Birdie' L.
Clarence “Birdie” L. Bird, 93, of Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2009, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 4, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Ed Powers. Visitation: 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Carol Guerrero of Cedar Rapids, Marilyn Meek of Cedar Rapids and Mary (Richard) Drahos of Jasper, Texas; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dolly Ayres of Wilton; a brother LeRoy Bird Jr. of Iowa City; and many nieces and nephews.
Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; daughter, Donna Bird; parents; two brothers; and one sister.
Clarence was born Nov. 13, 1916, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of LeRoy and Ida Mae (McKeen) Bird. On Oct. 2, 1939, he was united in marriage to Virginia Morek in Edina, Mo. Virginia died Oct. 1, 2009. He retired from Link Belt after 31 years.
Clarence was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Jefferson PTA and one of the first members of the Jefferson Booster Club. He spent over 50 years with the Odd Fellows Lodge and enjoyed reading.
A memorial fund has been established in Clarence's memory.
