Griggs, Phyllis M.
Phyllis M. Griggs, 91, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, July 31, 2009, at West Ridge Care Center following a long illness. Funeral services:
1 p.m. Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. The Rev. Ed Powers of Asbury United Methodist Church will officiate. Entombment will immediately follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Rudd and husband, Tracy of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Travis Rudd of Iowa City, and Cassandra Rudd of Cedar Rapids; and a sister-in-law, Edna Mae Budde of Las Vegas, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Richard.
Phyllis Maxine Griggs was born Feb. 24, 1918, in Chelsea, the beloved daughter of Edward R. and Ella C. (Weaver) Budde. She married Earl A. Griggs on Sept. 20, 1942, in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death in 2003.
Throughout her life she worked mainly in her home caring for her family. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking, and was a talented seamstress. She was a longtime member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will forever be remembered for devotion to her family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Phyllis' name are made to St. Luke's Hospice.
