Ronald C. Salven, 82, of Marion, died Saturday,
July 26, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital.
Ron was born June 21, 1932, in Graettinger,
Iowa, to Clyde and Irene (Nefstead) Salven. He graduated from Newell High School in 1950, and then served in the U.S. Navy (Korean conflict) from 1950 to 1954. Ron worked in building maintenance for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection and the American Legion Post 298, where he served as commander in 1972.
Ron enjoyed the outdoors, especially spending time at his cabin and fishing on the Mississippi River near Guttenberg, Iowa. He had a fondness for dogs, raised many and enjoyed their company. He was also a faithful fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, New York Giants, Boston Celtics and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Ron is survived by his children, Lisa (Jack) Rasmussen of Kanawha, Tyler Salven of Marion, Ronda (Jeff) Powers of Dubuque and Timothy Salven of Cedar Rapids; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his faithful pet and companion, Hannibal.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Janis Chase; and a granddaughter, Shauna Lynn Eekhoff.
No service is planned at this time. A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Newell,
Iowa.
