Eldon "Jake" Jacobsen, 86, passed away on Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at Bird House Hospice in Iowa City. Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.

Eldon was born Jan. 24, 1932, to John and Millie Jacobsen. He spent his childhood as a farm boy and often said a farm was a good place to grow up, although hauling hay bales on a hot summer day was not his favorite thing to do. He liked to tell about attending a one-room county school for four years. He graduated from Bradgate High School in 1950. He was enlisted in the Navy from 1952 to 1956. During those four years, he was in electronics and stationed in Corpus Christi, Texas, for most of his duty. After discharge, he went to work for Northwestern Bell in Humboldt, Iowa. He was transferred several times while employed, including to Spencer, Pocahontas, Des Moines, Sioux City and Cedar Rapids.

He met his beloved wife, Deloria, at the Humboldt County Fair in 1952. They were married in 1954. He was the proud father of Dr. Joni (Mike) Bosch, Janis (Dave) Powers and Dr. Gary (Jill McConnell) Jacobsen. He belonged to the Junior Chamber in Sioux City and enjoyed hosting foreign students who came to visit the city. He was active in the Telephone Pioneers and was involved with getting Beep Ball started for the blind. He served on committees at Morningside Lutheran Church in Sioux City and at Resurrection Lutheran in Marion. He was so proud of his Danish ancestry. He enjoyed everything about electricity and liked to tell how a three-way switch works.

Eldon enjoyed playing cards, cribbage being one of his favorites. He liked to watch sports - the Cubs were his favorite team. He was a people person and was very proud of his family.

Eldon is survived by his children; grandchildren, Jared Bosch, Cassie Bosch (Chris Ahern), Kristen (Brian) Witt, Courtney (Jesse) Sand, Lindsey Powers, Kelsey (Tanner) Miller, Carter Jacobsen and Quinn Jacobsen; and great-grandchildren, Jacoby, Harrison, Emmett, Macy, Brooklyn, Leighton, Hannah and Gabriel. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Glenn.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the ALS Association, the Bird House Hospice in Johnson County or the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight.
