Patterson, Larry Russell

Larry Russell Patterson, 68, of 1776 Mallory St. SW, died Friday, March 9, 2012, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, surrounded by his family and friends. Services: 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Sharon United Methodist Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Bob Dagit. Military honors will be provided. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy; father, Russell Patterson of Cedar Rapids; daughters, Jodi (Chris) Houser of Walker, Traci (Jim) Kalagian of Cedar Rapids, Michelle (Dan Rau) Patterson of Denver, Colo., and Julie (William) Redmond of Cedar Rapids; and his grandchildren, Destiny Stroud, Abbie Houser, Taryn Stroud, C.J. Houser, Kasia Kalagian, Zach Redmond, Trinity Patterson and Jacob Redmond. Also surviving are his great-grandson, Xavier Kraut; brother, Patrick (Diane) Patterson of Ely; brother-in-law, Ron (Evelyn) Powers of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Sherry (Greg) Batchelder of Denver, Colo.; many terrific nieces, nephews and cousins; and his cat, Sam-U-L the Bozo.

Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Madeline; and sister, Patsy.

Born Sept. 4, 1943, in Kirksville, Mo., Larry was the son of Russell and Madeline (Small) Patterson. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. On June 26, 1982, he was united in marriage to Kathy Powers. Larry worked at Dental Prosthetic Services (DPS) for 35 years.

Larry was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church. He was involved in several Bible studies. He loved the Bible, history, western movies, being a jokester, playing cards, games and walking the Noelridge trail with his DPS family.

His greatest joy was his family and having everyone with him.

The Lord and his family were most precious to him.

Romans 8:28 was his most favorite Bible verse. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Larry's memory.

“And what about Sam?”
