Brockway, Misty D. McNelly
Misty D. McNelly Brockway, 37, of Urbandale, formerly of Waterloo, died Friday afternoon, Feb. 24, 2012, at the Hospice Home after a lengthy illness. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb 29, at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball in Waterloo. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
She was born Aug. 12, 1974, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Rick and Elizabeth (Hepperle) McNelly. Misty married Brian Gonzales on June 10, 1995, in Waterloo and they were later divorced. She then married Dion Brockway on Nov. 27,1999, in Conrad and they were later divorced.
She was a pension consultant, having 11 years experience in the retirement plan industry, working most recently for the Finway Group were she was a partner.
Misty was also a member of the National Institute of Pension Administrators (NIPA) and earned an Accredited Pensions Administrators (APA) professional designation. She served nationally on NIPA's Education Committee for the APA professional designation program as well as president of NIPA's Iowa Chapter. She was an Associated Professional member (APM) of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (ASPPA).
She is survived by her mother and stepfather, Elizabeth and Melvin Wittwer, and father and stepmother, Rick and Karla McNelly, all of Waterloo; one son, Kole Brockway, and one daughter, Jaedyn Brockway, both of Urbandale; one brother, Tony (Angela) McNelly of Evansdale; two stepbrothers, Brandon (Sarah) Powers of Evansdale and Jeff (Jenny) Wittwer of Olathe, Kan.; three sisters, Tammie (Merritt) Wayland of Des Moines, Jenny (Nick) Puls of Cedar Falls Crista Rosecke of Austin, Minn.; two stepsisters, Mikaela (Scott) Backinski of Savage, Minn., and Mica Powers of Baton Rouge, La.; and a significant other, Jason Casey of Waterloo.
