Welsh, Earl V.
Earl V. Welsh, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, March 23, 2012, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church, by the Rev. Monsignor Russell Bleich. Burial: Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. A vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Ramona; his children, Diana (Mark) Powers of Cedar Rapids, Deb (Steve) Blood of Palo, Patrick (Lisa) Welsh of Cedar Rapids and Michael (Loretta) Welsh of Cedar Rapids; his sisters, Inez Welsh and Anne Garringer, both of Williamsburg; his grandchildren, Ben (Lindsay) Blood, Jenna (Cody) Jandik, Elizabeth Blood, Jessica Powers, Shaun Welsh, Riley Welsh and Janey Welsh; and his great-grandchildren, Kaelynne and Ryker Blood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Paul, Leo and Gene Welsh.
Earl was born Dec. 21, 1930, in Iowa County, Iowa, the son of Patrick and Mary (Bryson) Welsh. He married Ramona Perrin on Feb. 7, 1953, in Boston, Mass. Earl worked for Iowa Electric as a supervisor, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, Mended Hearts and American Legion Hanford Post 288. He served in the Army during the Korean War.
Earl loved attending his grandchildrens' sporting events and the family gatherings. His family was very important to him. He loved to feed the squirrels, birds, listen to Irish music and take family vacations.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
