Nagui Sassine died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017.
A Celebration of Life service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 3, at the University Club on Melrose Avenue with Father Ed Fitzpatrick officiating. A reception will follow the service.
Memorial contributions can be directed to the Sassine Family Scholarship Fund at the University of Iowa Foundation or to the charity of your choice.
Nagui was born in Heliopolis, Egypt, in 1935. He graduated from LaSalle French Brother School in 1954 and the Leondardo Da Vinci Italian School for Design in 1956. He worked for Heliopolis Electric Railways Co. in various positions from 1956 to 1961 until his marriage to Olga Khal Sassine. Nagui and Olga migrated to Beirut, Lebanon, in 1961. While in Beirut, Lebanon, Nagui worked in architectural and structural drafting for the Lebanese and Middle East Architectural and Structural Engineering Co. Nagui also worked for Consolidated Engineering Co. in Beirut until 1967.
In 1967, Nagui and Olga migrated to the United States and have lived in Iowa City since then. He worked for Powers Willis and Associates Engineering Co. and became involved in creating the art of printing for the firm. When Powers Willis was dissolved, Nagui bought all the printing machines and started the first printing company in downtown Iowa City, Lind's Printing Service, in 1979. Nagui received a Certificate of Achievement Award for 20 years of Continued Growth and Customer Satisfaction in 1999.
In 1999, because of Nagui's heart failure, Lind's Printing closed and Nagui retired.
Nagui is survived by his wife of 56 years, Olga; son, Andy Sassine, and wife, Victoria Sassine; and granddaughters, Eliana Laurene and Anna Marine Sassine. He also is survived by his sister, Nadiane Sassine, and her sons, Mike and Alain Sassine and wife, Stacey Sassine.
