Nelda M. Powers, 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, at Christ Episcopal Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Kathleen Milligan. Burial: 3:30 p.m. Friday at Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery, Des Moines, Iowa.
Survivors include her children, Vicki (Mike) Larsen of Ankeny, Iowa, and Mark (Diana) Powers of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Amy (Ray) Seidelman, Kevin (Julie) Larsen, Daniel Larsen and Jessica Powers; great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Avrey, Mirabel and Andrew; stepgreat-granddaughters, Elaina and Emily; and special friend, Merle Holub of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merlin; daughter, Pamela Kay; three brothers, James, Henry and Robert Durgin; and Jennie Westrom.
Nelda was born Feb. 9, 1928, the daughter of James and Agnes (Stanaway) Durgin, in Anamosa, Iowa. A graduate from Anamosa High School, she was united in marriage to Merlin Powers on Feb. 16, 1947. After raising her children, Nelda worked as a bookkeeper/office manager. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
Nelda enjoyed dancing, gardening, church and especially being with her family and friends. She was the family's social butterfly who loved to talk to everyone and make them feel good about themselves.
Memorials may be directed to Christ Episcopal Church or Camp Courageous in memory of Nelda.
