Hazel (Jack) Senft of Vinton, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at Windsor Manor in Vinton. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Philips Funeral Home, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Shellsburg.
Born July 28, 1911, in Cedar Township, Benton County, Iowa, she celebrated her 104th birthday on July 28, 2015. She was the oldest daughter of Verne Jack and Mary Bowman Jack. On March 4, 1941, she married Daniel Ferguson Senft in Cedar Rapids. Hazel graduated from Vinton High School in the class of 1929. She attended business college in Cedar Rapids and was employed in retail and offices in Vinton. She moved with her family to Cedar Rapids in 1956 and later retired as office manager of the Ainsworth Insurance Agency.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, UMS, Vinton Club of Cedar Rapids and was a life member of George G. Luckey American Legion Post 57 in Vinton.
Survivors include a son, Robert Senft and his wife, Judith, of Madison, Ga.; grandson, David and his wife, Nancy, of Geneva, Ill.; two great-granddaughters, Allison and Kathryn of Marietta, Ga.; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Jack of Independence.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Daniel; four sisters, Virginia Murr, Betty Powers, Charlotte Harris and Kathryn Gardemann; her brother, Niles Jack; and grandson, Thomas.
