Comley, Hazel M.
Hazel M. Comley, 90, of Central City, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab Center, Monticello. Private family graveside service: 10 a.m., Saturday at Dunkard Cemetery, Toddville. The family will greet friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, at the Falcon Civic Center in Central City, followed by a luncheon.
Survivors include two sons, Keith (Lois) Comley and Kenneth Comley, all of Central City; five grandchildren, Douglas (Edith) Comley of Ryan, Gina (Dennis) Betzer of Central City, Brian Comley of Cedar Rapids, Darrin (Laura) Comley of Central City, and Barbara (Roger) Moore of Central City; sister-in-law Darlene McCreary of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; stepmother; three sisters, Helen Livezey, Alice Lambertsen and Sharlot McCreary; three brothers, Donald, Charles and Glenn McCreary; a half brother, Wesley McCreary; two stepbrothers, Norman and Elmer Parmenter; and a stepsister, Verda Parmenter McCreary.
Hazel was born July 22, 1920, the daughter of Guy and Maude (Sanborn) McCreary, in Lavinia, Mont. She came to Iowa when she was 2 years old, then her family returned to homestead in Iowa. Her mother died when she was 5 years old, and her dad remarried two years later and moved to Jillette, Wyo. They lived there for a year and then returned to Sioux City, Iowa. She returned to this area in 1930 to make her home with an uncle and aunt, Ruth and Pearl Lyman. Hazel married Glenn Comley on Feb. 27, 1939 in Central City and farmed in this area until his death in April 1996.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Hazel's memory may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
