Van De Walle, Hazel
Hazel Mary Van De Walle, 95, of Tama, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, at Living Faith United Methodist Church, Tama, with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Tama. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Hazel was born Nov. 28, 1916, in rural Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Inez (Cory) Metz. She graduated from Tama High School. On May 15, 1946, she was united in marriage to John F. Van De Walle at St. Patrick's parsonage in Tama. Hazel was a homemaker and worked at the shoe store in Tama from 1967 until it closed. She then worked at Rexall Drug Store in Tama until she was in her 80s.
Hazel was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama, the Federated Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John; and one brother, Clifford Metz.
Survivors include her son, Leonard (Susan) Van De Walle of Tama; one stepgrandson, Eric Schnabel of Dubuque; and one nephew, Edward Metz of Galesburg, Ill.
A memorial fund has been established.
