Jones, Hazel I.
Hazel I. Jones, 80, of Oquawka, Ill., passed away at 11:28 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Monmouth Nursing Home in Monmouth. She was born July 5, 1929, in Belle Plaine, the daughter of Ralph L. and Helen R. Frondle Kent. Hazel was reared and educated in Belle Plaine. She married Donald "Duck" Jones on June 6, 1948, in Oquawka, Ill. He preceded her in death on May 1, 1984. Hazel worked as a CNA at the Burlington Medical Center in Burlington for several years. She then retired and was a homemaker. Hazel enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Hazel is survived by two daughters; Connie Shinberger and Terry of Oquawka and Terrie L. Simpson of Belle Plaine; one son, Howard Jones and Diana; five grandchildren, Todd, Amy, Dena, Travis and Jim; and 10 great grandchildren, Zachary, Taylor, Wesley, Clyde, Caleb, Tyler, Riley, Tori, Maci and Nathaniel. Also surviving are two sisters, Eunice Houska of Marshalltown, Carol Hlas and Don of Belle Plaine; one son-in-law, Leo Hlas; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Diane K. Hlas, twin brother Howard Jones, five brothers and three sisters.
A graveside funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oquawka Cemetery, Oquawka, Ill. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka. Friends may also call on Saturday at the funeral home until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established for Monmouth Nursing Home.
