Hazel Hudson, 89, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at home with her family by her side. Per Hazel's wishes, she has been cremated. The family will greet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 11, at New Covenant Bible Church, Cedar Rapids. Service will begin at 11 a.m. at the church.
Hazel was born Aug. 29, 1928, in Henry County, Iowa, the daughter of Ezra and Cora "Lorena" (Boden) Martin. She graduated from high school in Mount Pleasant. Hazel married James Hudson on March 6, 1947, in Henry County. She worked at North Liberty Mutual Telephone, North Liberty Bank as branch manager, and as North Liberty city treasurer. Hazel was a member of New Covenant Bible Church. She enjoyed quilting and cooking. Hazel enjoyed writing and even wrote family cookbooks and two books about her family. She had the gift of hospitality and a great sense of humor. Hazel's family was the most important part of her life.
Hazel is survived by her husband of 70 years, James Hudson; daughter-in-law, Bernie Hudson of Robins, Iowa; children, Diane (Tom) Perry of North Liberty, Iowa, Doris (Chris) Cobb of Ohio, Janice (Tom) Howell of Washington, Iowa, and Bruce (Lori) Hudson of Iowa City, Iowa; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Elaine Ingwersen of Mount Pleasant, Joy Stone of Pennsylvania and Carma Blosser of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son; son, Randy Hudson; granddaughter, Jessica Cobb; and brother, Donald Martin.
