Dec. 26, 2016 2:28 pm
A pair of former Cedar Rapids RoughRiders are on a United States team that began competing Monday at the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship hockey tournament in Montreal and Toronto.
Forward Erik Foley and defenseman Jack Ahcan were selected for the team, which played its first game Monday afternoon against Latvia. They are among 23 players who survived tryouts.
Foley is a sophomore at Providence College, where he has seven goals and eight assists in 16 games this season. Foley, a third-round draft pick of the NHL's Winnipeg Jets in 2015, played for Cedar Rapids in the 2014-15 season.
Ahcan is a freshman at St. Cloud State, where he has three goals and 10 assists in 15 games. He was the United States Hockey League's Defenseman of the Year last season.
