Dec. 1, 2017 10:15 pm
DUBUQUE — Cole Guttman scored 1:42 into overtime Friday night to give the Dubuque Fighting Saints a 4-3 win over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in a USHL hockey game at the Mystique Ice Center.
Cedar Rapids sent it to extra time on a Brian Chambers unassisted goal with 53 seconds left in regulation. Jan Kern's goal with 6:52 remaining had given Dubuque a 3-2 lead.
Chayse Primeau, who assisted on Guttman's winner, opened the scoring for Dubuque with a power-play goal midway through the first period. The RoughRiders tied it on a Harrison Roy goal at the 11:53 mark and went ahead when Nicholas Granowicz scored with two minutes to go in the period.
Granowicz played his first game for the Riders after being acquired from Topeka of the lower-level North American Hockey League earlier this week. He was leading the NAHL in scoring.
Alexander Steeves' goal midway through the second period for Dubuque made it a 2-2 game heading to the third. Jiri Patera took the loss in net for the Riders, who were outshot, 36-18.
The RoughRiders host Sioux Falls on Saturday night at 7:05. They have a 7-8-1 record for 15 standings points.
