Bontrager, Woodrow 'Woodie' W.
Woodrow “Woodie” W. Bontrager, 93, of Walker, Iowa, died at home Saturday, Aug. 18, 2012. Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at United Methodist Church, Walker, by the Rev. Norm Kelley. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial: Quasqueton Cemetery, Quasqueton, Iowa, with military honors by American Legion Ray Post #376, Walker.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; children, Carol (Jerry) Wagers, Las Vegas, Nev., Phyllis (Ray) Moats, Nevada, Debra (Zachary) Ruffin, Hawaii, Karen (Mike) Bullard, Cedar Rapids, and Russell (Tami Lawler-Bontrager) Bontrager; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents.
Born May 29, 1919, in Kalona, Iowa, Woodrow was the son of William and Mary (DeWees) Bontrager. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army in Okinawa. On Dec. 23, 1960, in Las Vegas, Nevada, he was united in marriage to Betty Johnson. He worked in real estate for 30 years.
He loved the outdoors, was an avid fisherman, private pilot and photographer. He loved westerns and always dreamed of going to Alaska.
Woodrow was a member of United Methodist Church in Walker and the American Legion Ray Post #376.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Woodrow's memory to the American Legion Ray Post #376, P.O. Box 248, Walker, IA 52352.
