Arthur H. Peckham,
93, of Sugar Land, Texas, formerly of Hiawatha, died Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, in Vitas Hospice House, Houston, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17, at St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1123 Burney Rd., Sugar Land, TX 77498. Attendees are invited to wear blue, Art's favorite color.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Olene Peckham; children, Pamela Marshall and Lt. Col. (ret.) Brian Peckham; grand-children, Dr. Dawn Westfall, Mark Thompson, Jennifer Auston, Racheal Peckham, Jason Peckham and Ryan Peckham; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was born on the family farm near Gaza, Iowa, the son of David and Pearl (DeWees) Peckham. Art attended school in Gaza and enlisted and served in the United States Army Air Corps, serving in India and Burma as an airplane mechanic in World War II.
Art had a long career in trucking in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed working in his workshop for hours, camping with Olene and visiting with his family and friends. He was known for his ability to fix anything. He will be greatly missed by all.
Memorials can be made to St. Martin's Lutheran Church, Sugar Land, Texas.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Sugar Land Methodist Hospital and Vitas Hospice House for their exemplary care.
