Transit changes needed in Johnson County

To the residents of Johnson County: The transit system in our community is failing to meet the needs of many who use the services. Cambus, Iowa City Transit, and Coralville Transit all took part in the Iowa City Area Transit Study this year. Changes based on the results of that study will be going into action by the end of the year.
Because the Community Transportation Committee is committed to expanding inclusive and affordable transit, we want them to include two very important changes: First, all bus passes must be made universal, as in able to work on both Coralville and Iowa City buses. To keep the status quo, in which only the most expensive pass works on both systems, is to keep people with low-income from easy access to the entire community.
Second, bus service must be extended to midnight and Sundays. Second-shift and Sunday workers deserve the same bus service that weekday nine to five workers do. Please join us in advocating for second-shift and Sunday workers by encouraging our elected officials to do what is right and implement these two very important policy changes.
