Wilson, William E.
William E. Wilson, 67, of Toddville, died Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009, at his home from a courageous battle with cancer. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Noelridge Park Church, 1147 Clifton St. NE, Cedar Rapids. Burial will follow in Mount Clark Cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, temporarily located at 3100 F Ave. NW.
Bill was born April 15, 1942, in Masonville, the son of Harold and Elizabeth (Ammeter) Wilson. Bill married Ginny Covington on Feb. 16, 1968, in Cedar Rapids. Bill “Shakey” was an over the road trucker for many years. Bill and Ginny owned Wilson Truck Service and Little Ginny Transport. The next adventure was owning and operating Wilson's Country Gardens in Fairfax. In 1992, he bought an acreage near Toddville. On the acreage he raised ostriches, rabbits, peacocks, chickens and other various birds. He leased to Dawes Transport for over 22 years, retiring when his health would not let him drive in 2009. He drove over 10 million miles over the years. He was known and well-liked by his friends and family and will be greatly missed by all. Among his hobbies were gardening, fishing and spending time on the acreage.
Bill is survived by Chris Norton of Hiawatha, Scott (Debbie) Wilson of Dallas, Ga., Wendy (John) Panse of St. James City, Fla., Laura (Dan) Egger of Fairfax, Kristy (Steve) Sutton of Plymouth, Jeffrey Wessels of Cedar Rapids, Terry (Bob) Krahmer of Fairfax, and Jeremy (Amy) Wilson of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Elizabeth Wilson of Solon; his wife, Ginny Wilson of Cedar Rapids; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; three brothers, Keith (Linda) Wilson, Doug (Linda) Wilson and Tim (Theresa) Wilson, all of Toddville; a sister, Mary Jill (Kent) Scranton of Solon; and a special friend and companion, Sherri Watson, as well as his nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Wilson; and infant daughter, Melissa Jill Wilson.
