Douglas Meline
Douglas Meline, 81, recently of Cottage Grove Place in Cedar Rapids, passed away at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy on Feb. 14, 2011. Memorial services are planned for April 23rd at Asbury United Methodist Church in Webster City.
Douglas Raymond Meline was born May 10, 1929, in Kearney, Neb. Doug received his bachelor's and master's degrees in agriculture economics from the University of Nebraska while managing the University farms. He completed post graduate work at the University of Illinois. He served in the Air Force in England for four years in their Special Security unit. He also represented his base on the Brize Norton semiprofessional baseball team that played throughout Europe. In 1956, he married Ardyth Smith. Doug and family moved to Webster City when he accepted a position with Central Iowa Farm Business Association, a consultation and tax service created by Iowa State University. Doug continued working with the association until his retirement as senior consultant after 49 years of service at age 77.
Doug was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a charter member of Main Street Kiwanis. Golf was his favorite past time, a passion he shared with his son and many good friends. Doug especially enjoyed traveling with his family and friends, leading several international trips for members of the Farm Business Association.
Doug is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ardyth; son, Scott (Deb) Meline of Mason, Ohio; daughter, Ann (Lou) Stark of Marion, Iowa; grandchildren, Derek and Brett Meline of Ohio, Elizabeth and Will Stark of Iowa; and brother, Maurice (Joyce) Meline of Marysville, Wash. Doug will be greatly missed and forever loved for his ready smile, calm presence and eternal patience. He will remain in our hearts forever.
