Schrum, Wayne F.
Wayne F. Schrum, 90, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, under the compassionate care of Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with entombment to follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Visitation will be one hour before services Saturday at the funeral home.
Wayne was born July 3, 1922, in Cheyenne, Wyo., the son of William and Ruby (Addison) Schrum. His family moved to Iowa where they resided in Manning and here he graduated from high school. During World War II he served in the United States Army Air Corps. On Feb. 7, 1948, he married Anna M. “Ann” Hughes in Iowa City. The couple made their home here for many years where Wayne worked for Moore Business Forms for many of those years. In 2004, a couple years following Ann's death, Wayne moved to California, where he found an old friend, Marilyn Becker, and for the next seven years enjoyed her company and her family while living there. He then returned to Iowa, settling in Marshalltown to be near his son and his family. Here he lived at Ember's Senior Living Center, enjoying many new friendships.
He had been a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, American Legion, and a member of First Presbyterian Church.
His family includes his two sons, Larry and his wife, Barbara, of Marshalltown and Doug Schrum of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Jacob Schrum (Elena), Elizabeth Schrum and Ethan Schrum; and his two brothers, Burton Schrum (Betty) of Norton, Kan., and Lyle Schrum of Urbandale.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ann; a brother, Art; and two siblings as children.
Instead of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Wayne's memory to Iowa River Hospice of Marshalltown (501 Plaza Heights Rd., Marshalltown IA 50158).
