Jeanette "Jean" Kanke Norton, 70, died Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Belle Plaine Nursing & Rehab Center following a brief illness.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 24, at Salem United Methodist Church in Van Horne with Don Logan officiating. Friends may register from 9 a.m. until service time at the church. Private committal services will take place.
She was born Jan. 13, 1947, in Cedar Rapids to Glenn and Irene (Vogeler) Kanke and graduated from Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids.
"Jean" was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Van Horne American Legion Auxiliary and Future Green in Van Horne and president of the Van Horne Lions Club.
She had medical laboratory training at Kirkwood Community College and was employed in the lab at St. Luke's Hospital years ago. Later, Jean drove semitrucks at CRST and spent time driving and training others to drive trucks with (Rick) Nolan Farms in Van Horne.
She is survived by her children, Tom Henry of Cedar Rapids, Kendra (Jeff) Kajer of Toledo and Brett Feuerhelm of Van Horne; four grandchildren, Jacob Henry, Nicole (Justin) Sutton and Chance and Taya Feuerhelm; five great-grandchildren; her sister, Karen (Jack) James of Vilas, N.C.; two brothers, Gordon (Karen Schwartz) Kanke of Jefferson and Richard (Colleen) Kanke of Fruitland Park, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and her dear friend, Lou Krusemark Albers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one grandchild, Steeler Sutton; and her brother, Dennis Kanke.
