Rosalie Nofal Norton, 90, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017. Mom had requested no funeral services and to have a private burial. A celebration of life will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. at the Lighthouse Inn on Mount Vernon Road SE. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Rose is survived by her seven children, Denise (Richard) Coates, Corinne (John) Wilder, Eugene Nofal, Mary Brady, Laurice Zimmerman, Robert Norton and Susan Norton; 18 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Phoebe Homsey; her brother, Samuel Homsey; husbands, Alex Nofal and Ernest Norton; daughter-in-law, Jean Nofal; and son-in-law, Stephen Brady.
Rosalie was married to Alex Nofal. Together they owned and operated the 4th Street Cafe in Cedar Rapids. Alex passed away in 1964. She later married Ernest Norton, who passed away in 1982.
During her career as an exceptional bartender, Rose worked in several prominent restaurants, such as the Flame Room and the Lighthouse Inn Supper Club. She loved her loyal customers dearly and considered them family. Rose's greatest memories are of the Flame Room/Fox and Hounds, where she worked 25 years for Eugene Haddy. She then went to work at the Lighthouse Inn Supper Club for 10 years, where she worked for Theron and Josie Manson until she retired in 1990.
The family would like to give our sincere gratitude to Dr. Pope and a very special thank you to our hospice team from Care Initiatives Hospice for all the support and exceptional care of our loving mother.
