Storm coming this weekend; up to inch of rain possible

Another storm is expected to impact Eastern Iowa this weekend, but it's expected to bring its precipitation in liquid form -- and, perhaps, plenty of it.
The storm, expected to start moving through the area early Saturday morning, could bring up to an inch of rain to the Corridor, KCRG-TV9 Storm Team meteorologist Kaj O'Mara said.
Weather should be calm through the end of the week. Temperatures expected to hover around freezing today may cause some road issues, but nothing like Wednesday's ice storm. And Friday should be quieter, too. Some fog is possible, but it should be dry, and temperatures may even start climbing above freezing.
But a fairly large storm system -- the same system currently pounding southern California -- will be in our area by Saturday, and stay through Saturday night. Surface temperatures should warm enough to make the precipitation fall as rain, and up to an inch is possible, O'Mara said.
Normally this much rain would not be an issue, but with frozen ground and current icepack, some creeks and streams will probably be affected with some rising water. Also, any ice breaking up on rivers could lead to some jamming or breakup problems over the weekend.
Basement flooding may be an issue as well, depending on how much rain falls and how fast it comes down, O'Mara said.
