Carol Achterberg Glass, 63, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at her home following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church, Ely, by Pastor Erika Uthe. Burial: St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Homestead. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Friends also may visit Thursday after 9 a.m. at the church.
Carol is survived by two sons, Brian Glass of Cedar Rapids and Matt Glass of Iowa City; daughter, Megan (Scott) Bogard of Cedar Falls; two grandchildren, Maddyson and Jack; two brothers, Donald Achterberg of Glendale, Calif., and Paul Achterberg of Ramona, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Carol was born Dec. 31, 1950, in Iowa City, the daughter of Erwin and Dorothea Ahrens Achterberg. She married Rick Glass on Oct. 16, 1982, in Irvine, Calif. They later divorced but continued to have a special relationship. Carol worked at Kirkwood Community College in the Allied Health Department, where she truly loved helping students achieve their goals.
Carol loved to grow roses and collect pigs. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She genuinely cared for everyone and had a deep faith.
