The Cedar Rapids Community School District student-built house will be open to the public on Sunday, June 6, from 1-4 p.m. The 2009-10 house, located at 4621 Blossom View Court NE, was constructed as a project of the Cedar Rapids Community Schools Technology Education Department. The program involved a total of 30 students from Jefferson, Kennedy, Washington, Metro, and Xavier high schools. This marked the 38th year for the trades program.
During construction, students worked alongside electrical, plumbing, mechanical, roofers, siding, tiling, drywall, and concrete professionals. Dave Smith oversees the program.
The newest student construction has 1,664 square feet upstairs, and 632 finished square feet downstairs, along with 573 unfinished square feet. The open floor plan boasts geothermal heating and cooling, a three-stall garage, solid surface countertops, custom tile shower, landscape and sod package, main floor laundry, wood floors, and maintenance-free exterior.
