Dawson, Carol Jean
Carol Jean Dawson, 72, passed away July 11, 2012, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha.
Carol was born March 18, 1940, in Washington County, Iowa, to Harold and Marie (Helfrich) Lukavsky. Carol graduated from Columbus Junction High School. Carol married Fredrick W. Dawson on Dec. 14, 1957. Carol worked for the Cedar Rapids Public School system for many years.
She enjoyed spending time with her many friends, golfing, going to dinner, playing bridge and visiting casinos.
Carol is survived by her sons, Fredrick (Deb) Dawson III and Mike Dawson; three grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Weinreich, Fredrick (Alexi) Dawson IV and Ted Dawson; three great-grandchildren, Fredrick V, Tobias and Sydney; and brothers, Duane (Theresa) Lukavsky and Fred Lukavsky.
Carol was preceded in death by her husband, mother, and sister-in-law, Becky Lukavsky.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 16, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids, with brownies and ice cream served following the service. A private family graveside service will follow the reception.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
