Carol Henderson, 89, of Marion, formerly Central City, passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, surrounded by her family. A celebration of Carol's Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, with the Rev. Jon Moss officiating. The family will greet friends one hour before the celebration Saturday at the funeral home. Private inurnment will take place at a later date at Mills Cemetery, rural Paris.
Carol was born Jan. 20, 1929, in rural Coggon, Iowa, the daughter of Eddie and Laura (Dorman) Henderson. She graduated from Coggon High School in 1947. She attended Upper Iowa University, receiving a teaching certificate. Carol taught rural school in Linn County for three years. She and her husband, Melvin, were married Dec. 20, 1947, in Coggon. Carol lived her entire life farming and ranching in rural Central City. She and Mel enjoyed their many trail rides and horse events throughout the West and Midwest. Carol treasured the times spent with her family. She enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers and ice cream.
She is survived by her daughter, Colleen Henderson of Lanesboro, Minn.; sons, Nyle (Susan) Henderson of Ness City, Kan., and Mark (Liz) Henderson of Coggon; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; brothers, John Henderson and Duane Henderson; and sister, Celia Henderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice.
The family extends sincere appreciation to the staff of Summit Pointe and UnityPoint Hospice.
