Maxine Rema Ballou, 93, of Independence, Iowa, died of natural causes Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, at her home in Independence.
Maxine was born on Aug. 26, 1923, in Independence, Iowa, the daughter of Constant and Rema (Dixon) Miller. On Oct. 10, 1948, she married Walter Luther Ballou in Independence, Iowa. Maxine was employed for Janesville Auto Transport and the Buchanan County Relief Office, and was co-owner of Ballou Paint and Glass.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol (Jerry) Franz of Independence; six grandchildren, Michelle (Steve) Mitchener, Wheat Ridge, Colo., Amanda (Dan Heit) Ballou, Federal Heights, Colo., Laura (Arturo) Huber, Denver, Colo., Michael (Zita Nyarady) Franz, Toronto, Ontario, and Jeanne (Jeremy) Adams and Rob (Kathryn) Franz, all of Independence, Iowa; 12 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews she dearly loved.
Maxine was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Dean Walter Ballou; a sister, Noreen Sand; and a brother, Dick Miller.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with the Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Littleton Cemetery, Littleton, Iowa. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
